10 Things you should do to a new Home PC before connecting it to the Internet

 

1. Make a Recovery CD-ROM - helps to recover in the future.

 

2. Remove the Promotional Apps - Waste of Disk space and puts unwanted load on the PC.

 

3. Install Ant-Virus / Anti-Spyware Software - keep up-to-date with new definition.

 

4. Turn on a Software Firewall - Windows XP SP2 has free firewall.

 

5. Install printers and other Peripherals.

 

6. Establish a Password for the Administrator Account.

 

7. Create a New User Account with Password.

 

8. Turn Off Unnecessary windows services. Security risk and slows the PC.

 

9. Establish a System Restore Point from time to time.

 

10. Install and Configure ADSL/DSL Router (firewall) - best not to use USB modem, which are security risk, as they have no Firewall or NAT protection.
